Leather Gear Care

Our leather is custom-tanned to handle tough, outdoor conditions. However, tough gear still deserves smart upkeep.

  • Brush off jobsite grit daily, and wipe down with a damp rag when things get muddy.
  • Occasionally shake out the debris from inside bags and pouches.
  • For deeper grime, use mild soap and water—no bleach, no harsh solvents. Then let it dry naturally.
  • For occasional cleaning maintenance—about once a year—use saddle soap, a leather cleaner, or mild soap and warm water. Then apply a small amount of non-oil-based leather conditioner. We recommend our Rugged Service Cream.
  • Store dry, out of direct sun, and your Occidental Leather gear will outlast the job.

* Avoid oil-based products, as they can weaken stitching and shorten the life of the leather.

* Always wipe off mud, concrete, or other drying compounds with a damp cloth before it dries, as these materials can draw out the leather’s natural oils

I love these things, canít remember exactly when I bought them, 5-6 years ago. When I opened them I remember thinking dang these are huge, and they are. But they are so comfortable after being broken in. I donít carry many tools in them but I love being able to just stuff anything I need in them knowing it will fit. Just get them and then wear them til they are good and broken in, you wonít regret it.

Can't recommend enough

Been framing 28 years and bought this set up almost a year ago along with suspenders. Bags still look damn near new. No loose stitches, no holes, rivets are holding. Incredible workmanship! I wish Id found this company 20 years ago. Most comfortable bags Ive ever worn and, if these ever wear out- unlikely, Id happily buy again. Cant recommend enough. Cheer!

Full time Michigan framer and indoor trim carpenter. I have had this set up for over 7 years. This is hands down my favorite set up on the market. After 7 years of abusive 65+ hour work weeks in Michigan weather they have yet to show any signs of falling apart. All of the rivets are still tight. All of the stitching is in great shape. All of the leather is in great shape. Based on the current condition, I would expect this set up to last another 7 years without any problems. I do not baby these bags, I do not oil them or condition them (as I probably should). Occidental Leather products for life.

Great to hear that your Big Oxys are holding up well for you during those long work hours! Thank YOU for all your hard work and dedication. Stay safe out there.
